Mahnomen Canoe Project

The Mahnomen Canoe Project fundraising group seeks your financial support!  


The City of Mahnomen and Manoomin Arts Initiative are fundraising to complete the Mahnomen Canoe Project to the City. The fundraising goal is $25,000, the dollars fundraised will support the construction of 3-5 steel canoes (4’– 6’ high by 4’ long). Installation begins at the end of May and will be completed by the end of June 2024. The canoes will be located at key city locations which include as City Hall, County Offices, the Farmer’s Market Pavilion, and Green Space located across from the MAI murals downtown Mahnomen. All canoe designs featuring work by local artists.

FAQ

  • What does my donation go toward?

  1. Each canoe will have a plaque with a listing of donors, and all donations and donors will be featured in a plaque at city hall and in other promotional materials.

  2. There are two sizes of canoes:

  • Large canoes, 4’– 6’ high by 4’ long, will cost $3,500 per . This includes, concrete footing, artist work, steel sculpture production and a donor plaque.

  • Small-table top canoes, 18” by 5 ¼” and mounted are 16 ¼”high, cost $900 per

Cost includes artist work, mounted wooden base, steel sculpture production.

  • Where will Canoes be placed?

  1. Farmer’s market on front green space

  2. By City Hall/Library grass area.

  3. Other locations are TBA.

  • Who can submit artwork?

  • This project will feature a range of local artists who live in Mahnomen county, White Earth area and within our region. We are currently accepting designs for table-top canoes.
